best discovery of law school so far

There is a very prominent judge from the late 19th/1st half of the 20th century named Learned Hand. He wrote a lot of the opinions that lawyers find precedent from and law students study.

Just take a moment to ponder that name – Learned Hand. It’s so great. That’s all.

Yes, but do you have a picture of him in your book!

I’d like to know why that name! For goodness sake!

Well, according to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learned_Hand), Learned was his mother’s maiden name, and his middle name. His legal first name was Billings, and at some point he decided that was too pompous and just dropped it. I added a picture for anyone interested. I’m really just into the name though. :)

Leads to great stuff, though. I am buying a full set of these babies when I graduate and get a job (provided the economy hasn’t completely tanked!).
